Gilbert Chamber’s Business and Education Summit Featuring “A Day in the Life”

In today's rapidly evolving world, the intersection of business and education is more critical than ever before. Events like the Business and Education serve as a platform for dialogue, innovation, and partnership-building, ultimately shaping the future of business industries, education, and, more importantly, the lives of our youth as they develop to impact our workforce.

At the heart of the summit are the stories of those directly impacted: students, educators, and business owners. Through immersive "day in the life" videos, attendees gained invaluable insights into the daily experiences, challenges, and triumphs of these key players. We took a closer look at the narratives of a student, an educator, and a business owner captured in compelling videos made possible by Jonason Pauley, videographer at Gilbert Public Schools and Adele Johns, student videographer at ASU Preparatory Academy.

As summit attendees watched these videos, they were asked to consider their assumptions and beliefs about each group and where those originated and whether those assumptions and beliefs about teachers, students, and business owners were either affirmed or challenged.

A Day in the Life of an Educator: Meet Carrie Blackburn of Campo Verde High School in P.E., Sports Training, and Biomed.

A Day in the Life of a Student: Meet Hallie Salas, a Campo Verde High School Student and swim coach at Aqua-Tots.

A Day in the Life of a Business: Meet Brytenie Martin of Aqua Tots.

The Business and Education Summit serves as a catalyst for meaningful collaboration between businesses and educational institutions. By bridging the gap between theory and practice, academia and industry, this summit empowers students though educators and business owners to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

As we reflect on the day in the life of Hallie, Ms. Blackburn, and Brytenie, it becomes clear that by investing in the next generation of leaders, businesses and educators alike are laying the foundation for a brighter, more prosperous future for all. Taking all 3 videos into consideration, summit attendees were asked: What opportunities do you see possible after having an insider’s look into the life of an educator, a business owner, and a student? And also, this question: What insights/actions/resources do you see that would make a difference to the state of our workforce?

After these conversations, facilitated by Dr. Shane McCord, Superintendent of Gilbert Public Schools, summit attendees had a chance to strategize with each other the various ways people can get into their specific industries. While everyone has a unique story, attendees were tasked with creating a blueprint, or a checklist, for educators (and their students) as a guide to prepare them for being our future workforce.

Sponsored by a variety of incredibly generous people and organizations, the work of our Business and Education Committee is strongly supported by our business community. Our signature sponsors for the Business and Education Summit were landings Credit Union and Cigna. Other sponsors included Park University and Gravity Coffee Company.

In essence, the Business and Education Summit is not just an event; it's a testament to the power of collaboration, innovation, and shared purpose. As we look towards the horizon, may we continue to build bridges, break down barriers, and empower our youth to reach their full potential.
