Partners In Progress Workforce Readiness
The Gilbert Chamber Foundation works to connect business, education, and government for an ongoing and collaborative conversation regarding the workforce needs of our businesses and the opportunities to support educators, students, and families for a strong talent pipeline.
There are many local professionals who are eager to support our educators. We encourage educators and administrators to reach out to the Gilbert Chamber Foundation with opportunities for professionals to volunteer, serve as a guest speaker, provide input on curriculum, review student projects, serve as science fair judges, and more.
These community connections allow us to provide teachers and students access to business experts.
Business & Education Summit
At this annual event, attendees hear from a guest speaker or panel on the issue of connecting the business and education communities. Each table includes representation from government, education, small and large businesses, and attendees work on a series of discussion questions to assess opportunities to support one another.
Each year, the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce Foundation provides scholarships to students who are currently attending or plan to attend within six months an accredited vocational, 2-year, or 4- year institution. Recipient(s) must have demonstrated engagement through involvement in the local Gilbert community and additional weight is given to those students who have participated in a Partners in Progress program.
Shadowing & Mentorship
High school and college students may apply to be matched with a professional who can provide an inside-look at the student's career of interest. The Gilbert Chamber Foundation collects student applications twice each year for program cycles in the winter and summer. Each student and mentor can work at their own pace to accomplish between 16 and 20 hours of career shadowing and all mentors and students come together for a closing reception at the end of each cycle.
All participants must upload a résumé and a Release of Liability form.
Tours For Teachers
Designed for teachers, administrators, and staff, this program provides insight and resources to help participants gain a better understanding of the current and future workforce needs and trends within the local economy. The program includes an orientation, three learning days, independent assignments, and exploration. Twice each year, alumni come together to tour business & industry, reconnect, and share best practices.
Tours for Teachers is verified Arizona Department of Education/Career & Technical Education sponsored or approved staff/professional development to be used for CTE certification in lieu of college credit.
MFG Month Student Bus Tours
This event received the 2019 'Outstanding Program' award by the Western Association of Chamber Executives. In partnership with Higley Unified School District, Gilbert Public Schools, and Arizona State University, these tours take seven bus-loads of junior high students through local manufacturing businesses and all students participate in a hands-on STEM activity at ASU's Polytechnic campus.
