Gilbert Chamber Supports 2024 Proposed System Development Fees (SDFs)

In a memo to Mayor Brigette Peterson and members of Gilbert Town Council, the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce expressed support for the 2024 Proposed System Development Fees (SDFs).

We recognize that the current SDFs have not absorbed the increase in market costs of the infrastructure and services required to sustain our community's current and projected growth. We appreciate the reasonable inflation assumption of 3% per year and the work to evaluate the need for this increase based on actual projections of cost per project rather than an estimated blanket percentage rate. As such, the reasoning for the proposed increase in SDFs is valid and well-supported, accurately reflecting economic circumstances.

We recognize that Gilbert remains desirable for residents and businesses because of careful planning and forethought. While an increase in fees is never desired or ideal, we can appreciate the unprecedented external factors that have had a direct and significant impact on the cost of these projects. We acknowledge that these are the very projects and services that make Gilbert a desirable community for investment.

We appreciate the communication efforts by town staff as we considered the impact this issue will have on our business community.
