Gilbert Leadership Class Project

The Tradition

Each year, the current Gilbert Leadership class seeks to address a need in our community through a project that will create a lasting impact, reflect the legacy of the class, and give back to the community. A key component of the leadership program, the class works together to plan, organize, fund, and ultimately complete their service project during a day of service.

Recent Projects Include:

  • The Hope Walk at Gilbert's Riparian Preserve (Class 31)
  • The Friendship Garden at Gilbert Regional Park (Class 30)
  • Landscaping, exterior painting, and renovations at Friends of the Needy at St. Anne's Annex (Class 29)
  • Landscaping and renovations at Heritage Center at AZCEND (Class 28)
  • Pocket park installation with ramada and mural at HD South - Home of the Gilbert Historical Museum (Class 27)
  • Safe Exchange Zone installations at both north and south Gilbert Police Department precincts (Class 26)

Class 32's Service Project

OVERVIEW

The CATALYST is the proposed future site for Gilbert's Business Resource Center. A collaboration between Gilbert's Office of Economic Development and the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the CATALYST will serve as a centralized hub of resources and expert advisement for businesses of all phases - from taking that idea and exploring feasibility to preparing for the exit phase for a burgeoning business, and every phase in between.

The CATALYST is intended to complement current efforts by bringing many partners together into a centralized destination to catalyze connection, content, and clarity. It will be a space where transformational learning will empower entrepreneurs and business owners to explore possibilities and tap into expertise in a space that is conducive to creativity and inspiration.

LOCATION

The proposed site for the CATALYST is within the one-story Heritage Annex Building. Owned by the Town of Gilbert, there is a 1,400 sf suite that has been unoccupied for nearly a decade. This space is an ideal location for activation. Separate from this suite, the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce rents and occupies the other suite within the Heritage Annex Building.

PROJECT SCOPE

It is the goal of Class 32 to renovate the dormant space which has been unoccupied for nearly a decade by painting, decorating, and otherwise rehabilitating the suite to create a healthy and inspiring environment. Space within the suite will be activated with seating, tables, decor, and other resources to support mentorship and consultations, educational programming, and creative exploration. The class has identified these four initiatives for effective delivery of this service project:

  • Fundraising
  • Operations, Management, and Budget
  • Space Preparation
  • Furniture and Decorating

Fundraising

Class 32 needs your help! Renovation of this space to house the CATALYST will have a lasting impact, benefitting current and future businesses and, ultimately, Gilbert's economic landscape. To bring this project to life, monetary and in-kind donations are needed.
