On August 14, 2025, the community will gather at Melanie Nemetz’s office at Keller Williams Integrity First for an exciting civic engagement event: Youth Rising. This gathering will spotlight the power of youth leadership, intercultural understanding, and community connection—and promises to be an unforgettable experience. We will have youth musicians and performers, and the conversation is bound to be rich and enlightening.
The event will feature Shandiin Harrison, a 17-year-old student from Mesquite High School, as the keynote youth speaker. Shandiin is a rising star with a clear vision for her future: she plans to pursue an MBA at the University of Arizona and become a Global Marketing Manager. Her academic focus and passion for business are matched by a deep commitment to empathy and global awareness.
As a proud member of the Navajo Nation, Shandiin will share how her cultural heritage has shaped her values and perspective. She believes that we grow the most when we learn from people whose lives and experiences differ from our own. Her time in China and her experiences at home have shown her how simple, shared human moments—like laughter, food, and music—can bridge divides and create lasting connections.
In a world that often feels divided, Shandiin will challenge attendees to lead with empathy, curiosity, and courage. Her message will resonate with anyone who believes in the power of youth to shape a more inclusive and connected future.
Join us on August 14 to hear Shandiin’s story, connect with community leaders, and be part of a movement that celebrates civic engagement and the voices of tomorrow.
