GILBERT CHAMBER FOUNDATION COLLECTS DONATIONS FOR LOCAL, LOW-INCOME SENIOR CITIZENS

Adopt-A-Senior Program Fulfills Wishlists, Hosts Holiday Party with Help of Donors, Sponsors

GILBERT- The Gilbert Chamber Foundation is organizing the 11th Annual Adopt-A-Senior program this holiday season to benefit Gilbert’s low-income senior citizens and disabled Gilbert residents, in partnership with the Gilbert Senior Center and Page Commons.

The Gilbert Chamber Foundation’s Adopt-A-Senior program aims to bring joy and good cheer to low-income and homebound seniors and disabled Gilbert residents by fulfilling wish lists and hosting a holiday breakfast celebration. The breakfast celebration will include entertainment provided by local preschool students, along with raffle prize giveaways and goodie bags for each senior. Mark and Mickie Newman, of Newman’s Realty, are generously sponsoring the breakfast again this year.

In addition to requesting donors to fulfill wish lists, the Gilbert Chamber Foundation is collecting donations for raffle giveaways and gift bags. Items should be dropped off to the Chamber office by December 13th. Some suggested items for the raffle giveaway and gift bags are:

  • Small kitchen items
  • Indoor grills/griddles
  • Pots and pans
  • Shampoo/conditioner
  • Lotion
  • Lip balm
  • Towel sets
  • Socks
  • Blankets
  • Robes/slippers
  • Jackets
  • Large print books
  • Playing cards/puzzles
  • Stationary
  • Purses/wallets

“We have had a number of residents that have been touched by the generosity of the Chamber Foundation”, says Glenn Whitaker of Page Commons. “Bill is a widower and two years ago he did not submit a wish list. We stopped by and asked him if he would fill one out. He told us he had lost his wife to cancer, and if he requested anything it would be a donation to the American Cancer Society, which he submitted. When the gifts were delivered in December, not only did his sponsor make a donation to the Cancer Society but they bought a framed presentation of a star they purchased in the name of his wife, in her memory. Bill was so touched he broke down. He is very grateful for the wonderful kindness of the sponsor!”
