The Gilbert Chamber of Commerce Public Policy committee and Board of Directors have reviewed the Southwest Gas Franchise Agreement.
For more than 35 years, Southwest Gas has proudly served Gilbert’s residents and businesses with safe, affordable and clean natural gas. In 1997, citizens of Gilbert voted to approve a franchise agreement with Southwest Gas to guide the utility’s work within the town. With that agreement set to expire, the Gilbert Town Council unanimously approved and referred a Franchise Agreement, tilted Proposition 462, to the voters for consideration in June 2021.
The passage of Proposition 462 will formalize the working relationship between Southwest Gas and the Town of Gilbert, establishing contractual rules, regulations, and procedures that will guide Southwest Gas’ work in the town, and will ensure that Gilbert’s residents and business have access to natural gas service for their home-comfort and commercial needs. Additionally, the passage of Proposition 462 will provide the Town of Gilbert with a revenue stream to support public safety, street repair, parks facilities, and other critical general fund services.
As such, the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, as recommended by the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce Public Policy Committee, formally supports the passage of Proposition 462—the Southwest Gas Franchise – with the Town of Gilbert.
